Group Yin Yoga Classes | Jan + Feb 2019

I lead weekly Yin classes at Fire Horse Yoga in Jasper, Indiana (on The Square!) and at the Tri-County YMCA in Ferdinand, Indiana. 

Yin Yoga is a passive, meditative practice that stretches connective tissue around the joints. It involves variations of seated and supine poses held for 3-5 minutes and accesses deeper layers of fascia.

Group Hatha Yoga Classes | Jan + Feb 2019

I lead weekly Hatha classes at Fire Horse Yoga in Jasper, Indiana (on The Square!). 

Hatha Yoga classes include continuous movement through vinyasa or in depth focus on specific poses, all ending with deep relaxation. The exercises are strengthening, as well as, stretching. The yoga poses incorporate balance and awareness of the body and mind. Breath work during yoga is key to bridging the body, mind and spirit to work together. Group Vinyasa Classes | Jan 2019

I’ll be subbing the Monday evening Warm Vinyasa classes at Fire Horse Yoga in Jasper, Indiana (on The Square!). 

Warm Vinyasa is an energetic form of yoga where students fluidly move from one pose to the next while connecting their breathing to their movements. This type of yoga is taught in a heated studio (between 75 and 85 degrees) which makes it a vigorous and revitalizing form of physical fitness. Meditation and active self inquiry are used as tools of transformation; encouraging students to discover creativity, awaken passion, and create confidence and new possibilities. Join the YMCA group exercise instructors for a day of group exercise fun! Take as many classes as you like — all of our YMCA group exercise instructors will teach 40-minute versions of their classes. This is a great way to try new classes and take your favorites! Samantha will be teaching her Yin class from 11:30 AM to 12:10 PM in the Cycling Room. Door prizes, snacks, and smoothies will be available. Anyone who signs up for a YMCA membership on this date will have no joining fee!

Yoga Nidra :: A Restorative Guided Meditation

Join Samantha Knies Gray for Yoga Nidra! Yogic sleep as it is commonly known, is an immensely powerful meditation technique. As you lie down, supported in savasana, all you have to do is follow Samantha's voice. Falling asleep is okay, too, as you will still receive benefits while the unconscious mind is absorbing the practice. Yoga Nidra offers a space to explore what you need in the moment, as well as an opportunity to work on releasing long-held emotions. The class will start with a few gentle stretches to prepare your body for stillness. "Most people are trying to change themselves," says Richard Miller, a San Francisco Bay Area yoga teacher and clinical psychologist. "Yoga nidra asks them to welcome themselves. That moment of true welcoming is where the profound transformation takes place." For this practice, wear socks, warm layers, and consider bringing an extra blanket. We have limited space. Learn how to incorporate a partner practice into your yoga journey with your loved one, a family member, or a friend! Samantha and Amanda will teach Partner Yoga as an opportunity to build trust and strengthen emotional bonds while having fun during an asana practice. Together, you will work on connecting through breathwork as you practice a number of standing, balancing, seated, and supine poses with your partner. Accessible for everyone regardless of yoga experience. The practice will end with a meditative savasana. Open to pairs only.
